Fundraising Events

Birdies for CharityBirdies for Charity

DeKalb County Hospice is participating in Birdies for Charity, which is a fundraising program affiliated with the John Deere Classic PGA Golf Tournament, July 4-10, 2011. Pledges and flat donations are solicited by participating charities for their program. Contributors can pledge as little as 1 cent per birdie hit during the week of the John Deere Classic, or as much as they wish to donate, including flat donations. Individuals can also guess the number of birdies hit during the tournament for a chance to win some great prizes.

Birdies for Charity donates all money received to participating charities. As the sponsor, John Deere pays all administrative and promotional costs of the program, thus enabling all money pledged on behalf of DeKalb County Hospice to go to DCH. The 2010 John Deere Classic Birdies for Charity Program raised approximately $3.79 million in pledges for the 500+ participating charities. The Birdies for Charity program has raised over $28 million for participating charities since 1993.

Each person who makes a pledge to Birdies for Charity has an opportunity to guess the exact number of birdies that will be made at the John Deere Classic. The person who guesses the exact number will win a new 2011 Chevy Camaro. Over 500 other great prizes will also be awarded.

During the 2010 John Deere Classic, a total of 2,010 birdies were made. With only a 1 cent pledge per birdie, a pledge giver would have given a total pledge of $20.10.

If you would like to participate, please complete the pledge form on this page. To make sure your pledge is recorded for DeKalb County Hospice please use this pledge form. Each non-profit agency participating has a bird number and ours is 1789. All pledge forms must be received by 7/8/11.

If you have any questions, please call Val or Karen at 815-756-3000 or go to birdiesforcharity.com.

Musical Fundraiser
On April 24, 2010, DeKalb County Hospice had a CD release event for our new feature length CD titled, "In Each Moment." A nice crowd gathered at Blumen Gardens to hear various tracks from the CD, performed live. We were fortunate to have some phenomenal musicians join us including Ann Montzka Smelser, Linc Smelser, Anthony Devroye (of the Avelon Quartet) and Paul Rogers to name a few. A highlight of the evening included a patient in attendance who was one of the contributors/songwriters on the CD, as well as a family member who joined in performing the song her family wrote together. The second set of the evening included wonderful and lively Irish music by the band, "Mike King & Friends."

The CD is available for purchase ($20) at DeKalb County Hospice, Green Leaf Gift Shop at Kish Hospital, Vally West Hospital Gift Shop, and is available at www.Borders.com and at Borders stores nationally.

Tag Day
Springtime at Hospice means it is time for our annual Tag Day Fundraiser. This event is alway held the second Friday and Saturday in May. At very little cost and lots of energy, volunteers from DeKalb County will be stationed at local businesses to accept donations and distribute tags. Tag Day performs an important public relations function. People in the community see and talk to DeKalb County Hospice volunteers and learn more about the mission of DCH. They learn that those of us who are involved with DCH are approachable, kind, smiling people who are committed to helping others in many ways.

Bed & Breakfast Sweepstakes
For the past 22 years we have held a Bed and Breakfast sweepstakes during the summer. In addition to our popular grand prize we have many additional prizes to offer. Merchants and individuals in the community generously donated these additional prizes and we thank them for their continued support.

The grand prize is a night at the Fargo Mansion Inn in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. This beautiful Victorian mansion offers breakfast, whirlpool for two, and a private second story balcony in its E.J Fargo Room. It also includes a dinner for two at Joseph Megaan's Restaurant and $100.00 for other expenses.

Winter Escape Sweepstakes
Just when the winter is getting to us all we offer a Winter Escape Sweepstakes. The winner receives:

In the Spirit of Giving
Coping with a terminal illness is a difficult experience both for the dying person and for their loved ones. DeKalb County Hospice provides the terminally ill person and their family end-of-life care that emphasizes comfort, compassion and dignity.

Insurance payments cover only a portion of the cost of providing services. Your gift will help to insure the continuation of hospice services. Your gift also supports the Bereavement Program services that are offered free of charge not only to hospice families but to the entire community.

Please consider giving a donation to DeKalb County Hospice so that we may continue our commitment to serve all those who need our help.
