Fundraising Events

MUM Golf Tournament - Click here for the flyer.

The 13th annual Midge and Miles Underwood Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 at the Sycamore Park District golf course. This annual event is a major fundraiser for DeKalb County Hospice. The Underwood family has donated over $220,500 from the outing over the past 12 years! The MUM Committee is comprised of the Underwood family and friends along with some of the staff from hospice.

If anyone is interested in volunteering for this event, giving the committee some ideas for raffle and auction prizes or donating monies or gifts for the raffle and auction, please call Pam Kitterman at the hospice office, 815-756-3000.  Without this wonderful effort by the Underwood family this community event would not be the success that it has become.

Coordinating the event each year are LPGA teaching professional Sandy Underwood and Mary Underwood Curran.

MUM is held in memory of their mother Midge and father Miles, both golfers who introduced Sandy and Mary to the sport of golf. A Hospice patient, Midge died of cancer in the spring of 1998. Miles, also a Hospice patient, died in late 2008.

Musical Fundraiser

On April 24, DeKalb County Hospice had a CD release event for our new feature length CD titled, "In Each Moment." A nice crowd gathered at Blumen Gardens to hear various tracks from the CD, performed live. We were fortunate to have some phenomenal musicians join us including Ann Montzka Smelser, Linc Smelser, Anthony Devroye (of the Avelon Quartet) and Paul Rogers to name a few. A highlight of the evening included a patient in attendance who was one of the contributors/songwriters on the CD, as well as a family member who joined in performing the song her family wrote together. The second set of the evening included wonderful and lively Irish music by the band, "Mike King & Friends."

The CD is available for purchase ($20) at DeKalb County Hospice, Green Leaf Gift Shop at Kish Hospital, Vally West Hospital Gift Shop, and is available at www.Borders.com and at Borders stores nationally. In addition, on July 9, from 7-9 p.m. we will have a "Borders Night Out" at the Borders in DeKalb. This event will once again incorporate a variety of musicians and feature live performances of tracks from "In Each Moment."

Tag Day

Springtime at Hospice means it is time for our annual Tag Day Fundraiser. This event is alway held the second Friday and Saturday in May. At very little cost and lots of energy, volunteers from all over DeKalb County accept donations and distribute tags at local businesses. Tag Day performs an important public relations function. People in the community see and talk to DeKalb County Hospice volunteers and learn more about the mission of DCH. They learn that those of us who are involved with DCH are approachable, kind, smiling people who are committed to helping others in many ways.

Bed & Breakfast Sweepstakes

For the past 21 years we have held a Bed and Breakfast sweepstakes during the summer. In addition to our popular grand prize we have many additional prizes to offer. Merchants and individuals in the community generously donated these additional prizes and we thank them for their continued support.

The grand prize is a night at the Fargo Mansion Inn in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. This beautiful Victorian mansion offers breakfast, whirlpool for two, and a private second story balcony in its E.J Fargo Room. It also includes a dinner for two at Joseph Megaan's Restaurant and $100.00 for other expenses.
